Review: Emerald Blaze

Ilona Andrews, #1 New York Times bestselling author, continues her spellbinding series set in the Hidden Legacy world where magic controls everything…except the hearts of those who wield it.

As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powers—powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control. Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.

The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won’t rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that’s tearing their world apart.

Warning! Mild spoilers below.

First of all, I wan to thank Ilona Andrews because they outdid themselves with Emerald Blaze. Fans will be happy to know Emerald Blaze was another fast-paced, action-packed, romantic, and magic-filled addition to the Hidden Legacy series.

Emerald Blaze opens with Catalina is settling in as Deputy Warden of Texas and Head of House Baylor. After being attacked, Catalina is ordered to go to MII and take over one of their cases. She now needs to solve the murder of Lander Morton’s son, Felix. The suspects are 4 other Primes of different Houses who were partnered with Felix in a risky business project to reclaim The Pit, a magical dump site and swamp.  If dealing with Primes wasn’t bad enough, Catalina is forced to work with Alessandro Sagredo who returns to Texas. However, Catalina is determined not fall for his charms again even though Alessandro is determined to help her whether she wants his help or not.

Overall, Emerald Blaze blew me away. Secrets revealed and unexpected twists that were not expected at all. I was very surprise to see a different Catalina in Emerald Blaze. Then again, working with Linus Duncan, the Warden of Texas, and taking private lessons from her grandmother, Victoria Tremaine while dealing with heartbreak in 6 months would change anyone. The same with Alessandro who made a complete made a complete 180 change since Sapphire Flames. We finally get answers from Alessandro and boy, they explained a lot. You’ll have to read Emerald Blaze to find out but all I can say is Catalina and Alessandro are now going to be a force to be reckoned with.
