Review: Echoes In Death

This chilling new suspense novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb is the perfect entry point into the compelling In Death police procedural series featuring Lieutenant Eve Dallas.

As NY Lt. Eve Dallas and her billionaire husband Roarke are driving home, a young woman—dazed, naked, and bloody—suddenly stumbles out in front of their car. Roarke slams on the brakes and Eve springs into action.

Daphne Strazza is rushed to the ER, but it’s too late for her husband Dr. Anthony Strazza. A brilliant orthopedic surgeon, he now lies dead amid the wreckage of his obsessively organized town house, his three safes opened and emptied. Daphne would be a valuable witness, but in her terror and shock the only description of the perp she can offer is repeatedly calling him “the devil”…

While it emerges that Dr. Strazza was cold, controlling, and widely disliked, this is one case where the evidence doesn’t point to the spouse. So Eve and her team must get started on the legwork, interviewing everyone from dinner-party guests to professional colleagues to caterers, in a desperate race to answer some crucial questions:

What does the devil look like? And where will he show up next?

Warning! Mild spoilers below.

Echoes in Death starts off with Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke on their way home after attending charity party. While discussing their plans once they reach home, a a naked, bloody and terrified woman jumps out in front of the road and is nearly run over by their car. Eve and Roarke immediately take her to the hospital. There they learn her name is Daphne Strazza and she has just been the victim of a horrifying attack because of “the devil.”According to Daphne, a man broke into her home, attacked and raped her multiple times. Eve heads over to Daphne’s house and discovers the body of Dr. Anthony Strazza, Daphne‘s husband. At first the case is seen as home invasion, but Eve soon discovers that is not the case because there were two past cases that were just like Daphne’s. However, unlike Daphne’s, no one was killed. Now Eve and her team have to find the perpetrator fast before he attacks and kills any more couple.

Overall, Echoes in Death was another great story! Although this installment brings back bad memories for Eve about her childhood, she’s able to get through them with the love and support she gets from Roarke. Despite that the In Death series continues to be a strong series that never gets dull. Do not know how Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb does it but I hope she continues to keep it up because this is one series I hope it never ends.
