Review: Blood Vow

#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward returns as her thrilling, original spin-off series set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues! When a brooding vampire warrior-in-training teams up with a quick-witted aristocrat to solve a deadly mystery, the only thing more dangerous than their mission is their undeniable attraction.

Trainees at the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center continue to prepare for the war against the Lessening Society, but fighting is the last thing on Axe’s mind. Still plagued with the guilt of his father’s death, the brooding loner finds himself battling an unlikely attraction to Peyton’s enticing, aristocratic cousin, Elise. Elise feels it, too – especially when the two are thrown together in unusual circumstances, and she must decide whether she can trust Axe as she uncovers the mystery surrounding her sister’s death.

Meanwhile, Mary and Rhage are fostering Bitty, a young pretrans orphan, and hope to adopt her… until the appearance of a young male claiming to be Bitty’s blooded uncle threatens to tear the new family apart.

Warning! Mild spoilers below.

Well, if you thought Blood Kiss was good then you’ll be pleased to know Blood Vow was even better and you will definitely enjoy it!

The second installment of the Black Dagger Legacy series features Axe a recruit from the Black Dagger Brotherhood training program and Elise, a female of the glymera. Axe has a troubled past and lost his father during the raids which is why decided to became a recruit at the training center. Elise wants to be more than just somebody’s mate and dreams of being a psychologist to help her kind especially after the raids. Sadly, her father refuses to let her out of their home so Elise has been forced to sneak out in order to get her complete her degree. When she gets caught, Elise asks her cousin Peyton, also a recruit, for help and with the help from  Paradise, another recruit, Elise’s father agrees to let her continue her studies. However, on one condition which is she has to go with a bodyguard who happens to be Axe.

There’s another story line in Blood Vow which is about Rhage and Mary. This story-line continues from The Beast so I’m sure fans will enjoy it. Rhage and Mary are now happily fostering a thirteen-year-old girl named Bitty until they can fully adopt Bitty after a six-month waiting period in case any family step up to claim her. Everything seems to be going well until someone claiming to be Bitty’s uncle steps forward. Now Rhage and Mary have to face the possibility of loosing the family they built with Bitty.

Overall, Blood Vow was another great read and installment well written by J.R. Ward in her spin-off series. Not only do we get to meet new characters but we also get to see the original Brothers again. First Butch and now Rhage, makes you curious to know who J.R. Ward will pick in the next installment of the Black Dagger Legacy series. After finishing Blood Vow, all I can do now is look forward to reading more about the other recruits and the Brothers.

Can’t wait to see what J.R. Ward has in store for us next.
