Review: Of Flame and Light

Taran Wird holds the unique ability to conjure fire and lightning. She is mated to Gemini, Second in Command to the Squaw Valley Pack of the Lake Tahoe Region, and the sole werewolf to possess the ability to split into two wolves. And although they are mates, Taran’s insecurities have driven them apart.

Devastated by an injury that left her with a zombie-like limb, Taran struggles to regain command over her magic. But when her arm and her power turn against her, lashing out on those she most loves, she knows she can no longer carry this burden alone. Not that she likes the alternative.

The only way to regain control of her magic is to align and learn from the local coven of witches―the very ones who sought to banish her when she and her three unique sisters first moved to the mystical region. But although Taran is trying, the teachings don’t come easy, and the tasks leave her weak and emotionally shattered.

Yet Taran must learn and learn fast. Time is running out. The fire she once mastered so easily has become her greatest adversary and is now slowly burning her alive . . .

Warning! Mild spoilers below.

Alright, the next installment of the Weird Girls series is out!

However, Celia’s no longer the main heroine.

This time its her sister, Taran, who’s going to be the main heroine!

Yes, there was Of Flame and Promise but that was just a novella this time its a full length novel!

So if you enjoyed Of Flame and Promise then I’m sure you will enjoy Of Flame and Light which was another was well written story of the Weird Girls series!

Of Flame and Light starts off with Taran waking up because of her zombie-like arm. The same arm that she lost but regained due to events that occurred in A Cursed Bloodline. The same arm that has caused Taran to loose her self esteem and struggle with her magic. Not to mention that Taran believes the arm is the reason why her mate, Gemini, has distanced himself from her. With all these problems on her mind, the last thing Taran needs is another one.

Sadly, luck is not on her side.

One moment Taran’s arm is fine then in the next it begins to act up and before she knows it her sisters are holding her down as her magic goes out of control while at the same time she feels as if she is burning from the inside out. As a result, Taran is taken to Genevieve whom Taran dislikes due to her being the head witch of the very coven that once tried to banish her and her sisters. Not to mention that Genevieve has the hots for Gemini so that gives Taran even more reason to dislike her. Once there, Taran is given a choice to either train as a witch in order to learn how to control her arm and her magic or let her wild magic conitinue to risk those around her that she loves. Or worst case scenario, the fire will eventually burn her from the inside out leading to her death. Of course, Taran has no other option but to pick the first option and begins her training with the witches which she soon learns that she will be faced with difficult challenges.

Ever since I heard Cecy Robson was going to write more novels of the Weird Girls series but from the POVs of the other sisters, I couldn’t hold back my excitement on getting a chance to read Taran and Emme’s POV. Then came Of Flame and Promise which let us get inside Taran’s head and we saw another side of the feisty, foul mouthed, bad tempered and butt kicker we all love. We saw the softer, scared, and  vulnerable side of Taran that was unexpected. However, we also saw how much Taran and Gemini loved each other as they finally took their relationship to the next level.

However, that was before A Cursed Bloodline.

In Of Flame and Light, Taran and Gemini’s relationship  is at whole other place than it was in A Cursed Bloodline. In fact, there were moments and scenes in Of Flame and Light where I wanted to smack Taran or Gemini or both in the head because of their stubbornness and distance from each other. Here I thought we were through seeing such angst when Aric and Celia got their HEA. Looks like Cecy Robson decided differently because there were also moments that left you laughing and crying between Taran and Gemini. What’s more is looks like we’ll see another Taran and Gemini novel with the way Of Flame and Light ended.

Can’t wait!
